Leaders come in different forms. So says Daniel Golemen.
If there is a crisis, especially an existential one, then you might need a "general" but in the long term this is bad for culture, productivity and performance.
This is somewhat true of pace-setting leadership which can exhaust the team.
If the organisation is new and growing fast, a visionary form of leadership might be best.
My personal preference is a mix of coaching and team-building.
